The official second trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently out and it looks absolutely incredible. While the trailer is short there is so much going on that you can’t help but replay it numerous times. From gun slinging to train heists and countless short teases of more grander adventures it honestly feels good to be back in the world of Red Dead Redemption. Following the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang we’re welcomed back into the west as the gang rob, steal, fight their way across numerous new terrains and familiar landscapes in order to fend for themselves and survive.
Even though the trailer doesn’t give us an exact date for release other than spring 2018, there’s still plenty to take away from. Everything in the game looks absolutely beautiful from the country landscape to the snowy terrain as they ride their horses. Rockstar is the kind of studio that doesn’t rush anything, it’s why GTA games for example are released so far in between one another but the world of Red Dead is something that’s been missed immensely by fans. On a personal note, Red Dead Redemption became one of my favorite games for the previous generations of console and the current wave of games currently out while fun and great on their own, lack a certain charm that Red Dead seems to nail every time.
Riding your horse around the west and planning heists on trains looks like so much fun and given how both the Xbox one X and PS4 Pro can support 4K, Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to look even more graphically pleasing and that’s enough to get anyone excited. Red Dead Redemption 2 will have an open world environment where weather patterns are going to be more accurate and change as well as have an impact on certain features making this seem like the most in depth mechanically the series has ever been. For those who haven’t played Red Dead Redemption or are a little confused by the games timeline, Red Dead Redemption 2 won’t be sequel but rather a prequel focusing on the character of Arthur Morgan and centering around the story of Dutch. This is indicated towards the end of the trailer where a character is heard saying Dutch.
The more I look at the trailer the more I wish it was closer to spring 2018, there aren’t any games quite like Red Dead Redemption 2 currently out or released by another studio. There’s this sense of strong narrative and a “Hollywood” like quality to it that makes it much more than a western based game. Red Dead Redemption captures the essence of the allure of western culture and cowboys making you really feel as badass as they appear in famed films. Robbing trains, getting in bar fights, riding horses and encountering bandits that try and lure you in so they can rob you, there’s this real strong fight for survival feel and freedom found in the Red Dead games that constantly entice you and never feel trivial or played out mid game. Everything you’re able to do, see and experience in Red Dead Redemption felt fun and special and never got dull or felt as if it was a hassle to do, especially when you just spend time roaming around looking for trouble(who didn’t love feeling like Dick Dastardly and tying someone up on the train tracks).
Judging from the trailer alone, Red Dead Redemption 2 aims to keep that ideology alive as there are so many new and subtle features added that show Rockstars laser like focus on attention to detail. While subtly is shown in the trailer in the case of new features, it’s really hard to not constantly bring up the elephant in the room and address just how great the game look. If the trailer was made from fully in game graphics then it’s safe to say even you aren’t a western fan you’re ready to hop on board. Graphically speaking I can’t stress enough just how beautiful this game is, from the lighting to the textures there’s just so much Rockstar gets right that you almost forget you’re looking at a game trailer.
